Letter: Child care benefit will hurt in the long run

I’m heading out to do some shopping this morning, and, no, at age 79, I didn’t get a cheque (from the federal government for the Universal Child Care Benefit). However, I hope there is not a feeding frenzy this morning because of those who did.

The top City of Greater Sudbury earner in 2014 was CAO Doug Nadorozny, who made $223,374, plus $9,372 in benefits. Nadorozny's salary has increased by about $10,000 since 2011, when it was $213,196.

Canadians need to know that the Harper government’s largesse this week suggests that it thinks Canadians can be bought.

They also need to know — and I stand to be corrected on this — that neither the McGuinty/Wynne government or the Harper government have run a surplus during the last decade.

Nothing but deficits each and every year, and our government debts grow by leaps and bounds.

Now those happy children shopping today need to know that in the long run they will be paying, and paying dearly, for the horrible fiscal mismanagement of these two governments.
