Ward system just isn’t working

With all due respect councillor, no it isn’t fine. Communities have little to nothing in common with each other, but are expected to elect councillors to represent their interests.

The people of Whitefish and Copper Cliff have very little in common with each other. So, too, do the people of the Donovan and Azilda.

Councillors are slapped with large areas with little in common to try to represent in council. As a result, we end up with councillors that, through no fault of their own, cannot represent our interests well.

I understand council has a lot on its plate now, repairing the city and putting in policies necessary to restore the people’s faith.

Might I make a suggestion?

Could council not ask Laurentian University if they could design a ward boundary system for the city? It would be a ‘made-in-Sudbury’ solution that eventually council could review, and we could debate in the next election.
