Letter: Touched by story of caregiving family’s struggles

I was very touched by your article about the challenges family caregiver Nan Amaratunga undergoes each and every day (“10 years of care puts family on verge of burnout” published on NorthernLife.ca on Nov. 27).

As Chair of the Ontario Caregiver Coalition, we see stories of overburdened caregivers way too often. When comparing the price of an ICU for Nan’s husband vs. more in home care the answer seems obvious.

The Ontario Caregiver Coalition and the Change Foundation are now undertaking a provincial consultation on caregiving. We want to hear caregiver’s stories like Nan’s so we improve the system. We will be holding a focus group in Sudbury in January.

I encourage caregivers in Sudbury to go our website TheCaringExperience.ca to register!
