Last summer, I had the pleasure of chatting with two wonderful gentlemen who worked for the fire department.

I have so much respect for the women and men that put their lives on the line for us every day, and although police officers and firefighters are unselfishly brave and loyal, they both wear their uniforms with pride.

The difference is that we can tell a police officer when we see one, but changes to the uniforms of our firefighters — not so easy.

These people train hard, put their lives out there for us, but since becoming the Greater City of Sudbury, their uniforms look a lot like their brothers and sisters of law enforcement, except for a small flame seen on the arm patch.

Why does this matter? When you train as hard as these people do, you would like to wear your proper badge, to show what you are trained and qualified to do.

I am sure that doctors want to be recognized as doctors and not dentist; same deal, and something for the city to look into!
