What kind of people do we have running this city who are discouraging its citizens to use recreational facilities in the off season?

With the growing North American epidemic of obesity, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and other risks associated with sedentary lifestyles, why are city officials resisting any attempts to encourage its population to walk, run, take the children to the park, walk the dog, tobogganing, etc.?

There are those at the city who will tell you that they maintain the boardwalk through Bell Park, throughout the winter, and also provide a cleared skating path from Science North to the main parking area in the park. This is correct, except for the fact this is the only plowed free parking area to access this recreation.

The parking lots at the old St. Joseph Hospital, both lots on the north and south sides of York Street, and the parking lots at the James Jerome Sports Complex are not plowed and haven’t been plowed this winter.

I remember a time in the not too distant past when all these parking lots were kept open throughout the winter.

So what, if anything, are you mayor and council going to do to correct this matter?
