Northern Lights Festival Boréal (NFLB) has partnered with the Laughing Buddha Restaurant to present the Good Lovelies in the Buddha's newly renovated back room. NLFB is a local non-profit organization, and has put on one of Canada's longest running folk music festivals in Bell Park every July. The concert is a fundraiser for the group.

“Please support your local roots music festival,” said Paul Loewenberg, artistic director for NLFB, in a press release. He is also music director for the adjacent Townehouse Tavern and worked on the renovation of the new concert space at the Laughing Buddha at 194 Elgin Street this summer.

“They (Good Lovelies) are sassy, funny and building a following across Canada,” he added.

“They are not your run-of-the-mill all girl band. At a time when too many of us are affected by gloom and doom and advancing recession these three women are the perfect antidote,” he said.

The Good Lovelies, from Toronto, are Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore.

“Armed with a pile of of instruments, a repertoire of sassy and sophisticated songs and an effervescent sense of humour, they never fail to charm even the toughest audiences,” explained Loewenberg.

Their first full length CD was released last January.

There is seating only for 90 at the Buddha back room. Tickets are $20 for the public, and $15 for NLFB members. Tickets are available at the NLFB office at 19 Grey Street across from the Sudbury Arena (674-5512), the Laughing Buddha (673-2112) or Records on Wheels, 56 Elm Street (675-6617). For dinner reservations at the Laughing Buddha, before the show, phone 673-2112.
