A theatre troupe from École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier, Les Draveurs, walked off with several prizes for its play, Potionnée, at the District Sears Drama Festival, which took place at Sudbury Secondary School on April 12 and 13.

Potionnée is about a love potion which is accidentally created, and the whole village learns about it. Everybody wants to get a hold of the potion, especially Madame Pantalone, who sees it as a money-making opportunity.

The members of the theatre troupe won for outstanding performance, which allows them to move onto the regional level of the drama festival. Other awards of excellence and merit were presented to Les Draveurs members.

The chorus received a prize for its scene changes. Marie-Michelle Prieur, Céline Lepage and Ashley Howard won for best costumes, while Janie Pinard won for her performance. The best stage manager prize was awarded to Émilie-Anne Fleury, and the entire cast received an award for group complicity. Les Draveurs also presented its play at the Festival Théâtre Action in Ottawa from April 15 to 17. The Regional Sears Drama Festival will be held in Sudbury from April 29 to May 1.
