Macdonald-Cartier theatre troupe wins honours at drama festival

A theatre troupe from École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier, Les Draveurs, walked off with several prizes for their play, Potionnée, at the District Sears Drama Festival, which took place at Sudbury Secondary School on April 12 and 13.

The members of the theatre troop won for outstanding performance, which allows them to participate at the regional level of the drama festival.

Other awards of excellence and merit were presented to the students.

The chorus received a prize for its scene changes. Marie-Michelle Prieur, Céline Lepage and Ashley Howard won for best costumes while Janie Pinard won for her performance. The best stage manager prize was awarded to Émilie-Anne Fleury, and the entire cast received an award for group complicity.

Potionnée is about a love potion which is accidentally created, and the whole village learns about it. Everybody wants to get a hold of the potion, especially Madame Pantalone, who sees it as a money-making opportunity.

Members of Les Draveurs are: Patrique Brochu, Sophie Brochu, Matthew Clement, Zachary Chmilar, Émilie-Anne Fleury, Travis Gagnon, Joël Giroux, Niko Hébert, Roxanne Henry, Ashley Howard. Danyka Johannssen, Éric Lapalme, Alexie Laverdière-Ranger, Alexandra LeBlanc, Céline Lepage, Nicholas Mackenzie, Stevie Anne Main, Arielle Marchand-Potvin, Benoît Noël, Janie Pinard, Marie-Michelle Prieur, Raphaël Robitaille, Mathieu Rosset, Kelsey Shawera, Alex Tétreault, Dunstan Topp and Angela Yarkie.

Les Draveurs will present their play at the Festival Théâtre Action in Ottawa from April 15 to 17. The Regional Sears Drama Festival which will be held in Sudbury from April 29 to May 1st.
