Greater Sudbury radio is taking a step back, all the way to the 60s, 70s and 80s, with the launch of Rewind 103.9.
The station launched at 12 a.m. May 21, replacing The Big Daddy. The first song played on the rebranded station was Bob Segar's Old Time Rock and Roll.
“People in Sudbury were telling us they wanted a station like Rewind,” Wendy Watson, general manager of Rewind 103.9 said.
When the baby boom first began in the 1960s, an AM station in Sudbury called N-O 55 was playing revolutionary tunes of the time from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley, according to a press release issued by the station.
Watson said Rewind 103.9 plans to bring yesterday's hits back, playing nothing but old time rock and roll. She said some of the songs they will play haven't been heard in the Sudbury area for nearly 25 years.
A press release from Rewind 103.9 stated “the great music is back.”
Signs advertising the new station can be found throughout the city today, May 21. For more information, Rewind 103.9 is online at www.rewind1039.ca.
