The recipients of the 2010 Joan Mantle Music Trust Awards have been named.

Mark Mancini from Lockerby Composite School, Ellen Andrews from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Kyle Blaseg from Lasalle Secondary School, Stacy Fleming from Sudbury Secondary School and Naomi Goldsack from MacLeod Public School were recently awarded plaques for their musical accomplishments and involvement in community service and academics, stated a press release from the Rainbow District School Board.

“This year's award recipients represent the breadth and depth of music education in Rainbow Schools where students have opportunities to participate in a variety of bands,” Jean Hanson, director of education at the board, stated.

“The quality of our music programs reflects the commitment of our music educators who deserve to be commended for their tremendous efforts.”

The respective schools attended by the winning students also received funding from the Joan Mantle Music Trust to purchase new instruments.

The award was established after music educator Joan Mantle passed away in June 2009.
