The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee is hosting its second annual Junction Creek Festival at Adanac Ski Hill June 5 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

To kick off the festival, brook trout donated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources will be released into the creek.

The event also includes tree planting, live music, a barbecue, free cake, bug identification and interactive hikes.

The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee's mission is to “restore all life to the Junction Creek ecosystem,” by cleaning up garbage near the creek, regrowing vegetation along the shore line and promoting environmental responsibility to the public and industries, a press release stated.

Through their efforts, native wildlife, insects and plants have been restored in the creek.

“The survival and the distribution of these fish depend on the health of the creek,” the press release stated.  “Since the first release, there have been trout spotted in many areas of the creek which were once inhabitable.”
