Savour the Street returned to Sudbury for its second year, and event director Michael Cullen said “it was awesome.”
One long table was set up outside the YMCA on Durham Street, and 300 people sat down to enjoy an eight-course meal featuring dishes from Greater Sudbury Restaurant and Foodservice Association menus.
“I think it was a huge success,” Cullen said.
He said e-mails have been pouring from people, telling him how much the enjoyed the event.
“We kicked it up a notch (from last year),” he said. “The whole package was well-branded this year with respect to the Savour Sudbury brand.”
The pre-dinner menu consisted of smoked meats and antipesto from Sunbeam Meats and Regency Bakery, baby back ribs from Cranky Joe's, Montreal smoked meat and homemade spicy mustard from Frank's Deli, red pepper soup and classic bruschetta from Pat & Mario's and smoked rainbow trout from Jessinik Fish Market.
For dinner, Respect is Burning supplied umbria roast with porcini sugo, Coopérative du Collège Boréal limitée served tomozzakala sald, Curious Thymes made kangaroo and duck consommé, Fishbowl Restaurant prepared chilled black tiger shrimp cocktails, My Thai Palace created a mango salad, Ristorante Verdicchio grilled yellow fin tuna with Sicilian style white beans, and Y.U.M. Culinary Academy served garlic and ginger beef stick scented with lemon grass.
Sweet! Extraordinary Cakes and Pastry served fragoli cheesecake mousse tart for dessert, and Regency Bakery supplied fresh bakery rolls and Old Rock Roastery had fresh roasted fair trade coffee on hand.
Cullen said this year, the portions were proper, considering the amount of quality food served.
A bigger and better artists stage was also set up, so performances by Sarah Craig and the Jamie Stever Band could be heard by guests.
Cullen said it is something people can look forward to again next year.
