The City of Greater Sudbury has received a $62,500 in funding from the province, which will be used for two cultural projects.

Of this funding, $35,000 from the Creative Communities Prosperity Fund will be used to develop a cultural map of the city using Geographical Information System (GIS) technology.  The map will be used to help further develop arts and culture as an economic engine for the city.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation will provide $27,500 in wage subsidy through its Youth Internship and Co-op Program.  The intern will play an integral role in researching cultural resources and putting them in context that will serve to promote arts and culture in Greater Sudbury.

“Capitalizing on our cultural assets will make a sizeable contribution to our community’s prosperity,”
Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said, in a press release. “This project will strengthen the community and help our region improve its economic advantage.”
