Organizers of the second annual Jazz Sudbury Festival are looking for the next jazz sensation.

The festival's talent search is underway, and finalists will perform on the main stage during the festival from September 10 to 12 at Science North.

Musicians can submit a two to five minute long video of themselves performing a Jazz piece before the deadline of July 31. Videos can be submitted at the Jazz Sudbury website, www.jazzsudbury.ca.

Judges will select four finalists from the submitted entires, who will be invited to perform at the festival. Then, judges Oliver Jones, Brandi Disterheft, Elizabeth Shepherd, Stéphane Paquette and Hilary Welch will pick a winner.

“We think there is a huge pool of untapped jazz talent in northern Ontario, and we want to give some of those voices a chance to shine,” Chris Kivinen-Newman, artistic director of the festival, stated in a press release.

“We had lots of success with our talent search last year, and wouldn't it be great if one of our finalists went on to a career in the jazz industry, with that first big break happening at our festival?”

Tickets to the festival can be purchased online at www.jazzsudbury.ca. Starting next week, tickets will also be available at all RBC Royal Bank branches in Greater Sudbury.
