“He's really excited about it,” the band's lead guitarist David Pierce said. “He's obviously looking forward to getting home and seeing some friends and family.”
Pierce, a Newfoundland native, will also be returning home this summer to get married and entertain friends and family with Ornaments.
“A lot of my friends and family haven't seen me play in any of my bands since I've been up here,” he said.
Casey Beaulieu rounds out the band, described by Pierce as a “simple three-piece band.”
Pierce described the trio's sound as classic-indie rock “grooves that people can sort of bob their heads to,” that is “guitar driven, rhythmic, not too overproduced.”
The Ottawa-based band have been touring since August of 2009, and has plans to bulk up their schedule with more shows in the near future, focusing on venues “up and down the 401.”
“CD sales are not really a way to sustain a band, especially in this day and age where everybody's downloads everything anyways,” Pierce said. “Any shows we're able to play, we've been doing.”
Having already released a five-track EP, Pierce said the trio plans to take their time working on a full-length CD over the winter.
Ornaments will “turn a rock show into a campfire” in Sudbury on July 30. Doors open at Little Montreal at 9 p.m. Sudbury's Willet is set to play with them.
