“During this time of year, I love eating fruit,” Stephanie Piché, the owner, said in an e-mail to Northern Life. “Sometime the cold crunch of a pear or a juicy bite of melon is what cools me down during the heat of summer.”

She said this recipe is a slightly sweeter alternative to the standard flatbread appetizer and is quick and simple to make.

Flatbread crusts can be found ready-made at most supermarkets.

Yield: 4 Servings

NOTE: If you are preparing this ahead of time, toss the apple slices in a teaspoon of lemon juice to keep them from turning brown.

Ingredients:
1 flatbread, preferably thin crust
1 apple, thinly sliced
1 tbsp bacon, cooked, crumbled or sliced
4 tsp maple syrup
1/2 cup white cheddar, shredded

Preparation Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 F.

Drizzle flatbread with maple syrup. Scatter cheddar evenly over the surface and arrange apple slices and bacon on top of the cheese.

Transfer flatbread to a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until cheese is beginning to bubble and the edge is beginning to brown.

Slice and serve warm.
