Science North is hosting a star party at Dynamic Earth to watch and celebrate the Perseid meteor showers.

According to a press release issued by Science North, as many as 60 meteors per hour could streak across the night sky starting on Aug. 12, during the peak hours of the shower.

Science North's star party begins at 8 p.m., and will include a public presentation by Science North's astronmer Simon Strasser at the beginning of the night. Weather permitting, guests can then watch the sky until midnight with the aid of powerful telescopes.

Guests can catch a glimpse of the moon, planets and learn how to find constellations as well.

For more information, or to find out if the weather will allow for a star party, phone 705-522-3701, ext. 243. Since the star-gazing session will happen outdoors, dress according to the weather and bring insect repellent.
