Sudbury's annual Summerfest is taking place this weekend in and around Market Square.

In addition to local producers, craftspeople, artisans and food vendors, Market Square is also bustling with a midway. Free shows will be put on during the day by local artists on the main stage, as well as the acoustic stage, and a family stage will provide entertainment for everyone.

In celebration of Summerfest coming downtown, Market Square is offering extended hours on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Elgin Street between Durham and Elm streets have been blocked off for the festival. The streets will be closed until Monday, Aug. 30. The outdoor music festival runs from Aug. 27 to 29.

  • lol

  • joy, you really need to get out there and live your life and stop being so negative about the world around you, honestly if your so scared of the world and bothered by how everyone chooses to live their lives, then find yourself a quiet little island or cabin with no news or contact with the real world..live in a bubble and you will be fine, you comment on everything so negativly that i look forward to reading your ridiculous outlook on articles every morning to get a chuckle at how much life bothers you...people had fun this weekend and nothing went wrong..OH MY GOD! THOSE BASTARDS, carnival of death? gimmie a break..your probably the kind of person that would get into an elevator with someone bearing a few tattoo's..and squuze yourself to the corner and gasp for air the second you got out because you felt like you were about to be robbed lol..why use the name joy? there is nothing joyous about ya..i dont think ive ever read 1 positive comment from you lmao

  • Either way it can be a carnival of death. These two wonderful children look like they may become victims of an accident waiting to happen. This is worse than no seat belts in a car. The looser criminal transients that control these rides have no safety credentials. Maybe get the Subury burecrats off their butts to inspect.

  • Maybe she means loose rides?
Either way, the midway carnies are not the best people to trust your safety to. Would you honestly put your child on a ride that’s 30+ years old, taken apart and reassembled countless times, (mostly in the dark), dragged across the country, stored in the winter and run by transients making minimum wage?

Bottom line here is that like most ‘festivals’, Sudbury does it ½ arsed and relies that most of the unwashed masses don’t travel outside the city. Hoping that ‘good enough’ will pass and pacify the below average Jane and Joe.
C-class bands. Crappy midway, and over priced junk food. Throw in the same clowns, face painters and you’ve got Northern Lights-Summerfest-Capreol-Hanmer Days-Blueberry-Ribfest-Bluesfest-Summerfest…etc…festival.
Save your money. Go to a real event with real talent somewhere else people. Leave this stuff to the 14-20 year old, smoking, welfare collectors pushing their baby carriages with their "Tapout" T-shirts.

  • and it's LOSER.. not looser.. looser means they are loose people and who are you to make that assumption..

  • Joy do you have any other hobbies besides making negative comments on the Northern Life website?

  • With the clowns running these rides as they don't need a criminal background check and no safety credentials, I would not let one of my kids partake a ride in this looser, child at risk event
