Travel - Auberge Inn Hostel offers all-inclusive weekends

Even though the Auberge Inn Hostel is located only two hours from Sudbury, owner Nathalie Gara-Boivin said it’s worlds away. “Manitoulin is so different, geographically and geologically, than Sudbury,” she said.

Even though the Auberge Inn Hostel is located only two hours from Sudbury, owner Nathalie Gara-Boivin said it’s worlds away.

“Manitoulin is so different, geographically and geologically, than Sudbury,” she said. “It’s so close, but it’s such a different experience.”

While Manitoulin Island gets most of its visitors during the summer, Gara-Boivin said it is beautiful all year-round.

That’s why Gara-Boivin and her partner Alain Harvey are hosting themed-weekends at their Providence Bay hostel.

The couple already hosted a Fall Colours Extravaganza weekend, and have more all-inclusive getaways coming up.

From Oct. 22 to 24, ladies are invited to join yoga instructor Andrea Tarini for outdoor sessions designed to help women “relax, reconnect with nature, and rejuvenate your senses in a natural setting.”

Since the hostel can only accommodate four to six people at a time, Gara-Boivin said it’s a great way for women to make new friends in an intimate setting. The weekend isn’t just for experienced yogis either.

“This is open for beginners,” she said. “You don’t have to be a yoga person.”

On the weekend of Oct. 29, guests are invited to a Haunted Hostel Halloween weekend.

Gara-Boivin has been establishing relationships with other Manitoulin Island attractions. Through these partnerships, guests are able to explore more attractions and points of interest on Manitoulin Island.

During the Halloween getaway, guests will be treated to a farm tour and will even be able to pick out a pumpkin to carve later on. Once the sun sets, Gara-Boivin and Harvey will lead a ghost walk and haunted house tour. Of course, guests are invited to bring their costumes.

The final weekend currently planned at the hostel is for men. From Nov. 5 to 7, Manitoulin chef Mathieu Bouchard will share kitchen tips.

Gara-Boivin said men will be able to sample different kinds of food, ask Bouchard questions and have the chance to be “one-on-one with this renowned Island chef.”

“Hopefully when they come back, they can impress their partners,” she said.

Auberge Inn Hostel opted to host all-inclusive weekends in the fall since some of the Island’s attractions have closed for the season. Gara-Boivin said there is still a lot to see and do on Manitoulin Island, but some restaurants and shops have closed. To keep guests busy and full, the inn provides everything guests need.

And there are also some attractions that are exclusive to fall on the Island.

“You can’t swim right now, but there’s salmon going up the Mindemoya River,” she said. “That’s something neat that people can see.”
