The Flour Mills silos will celebrate their 100th birthday on Oct. 1 and 2.

A community gathering will take place at the Flour Mill Museum, located on St. Charles Street, to recognize the milestone.

Ward 12 Coun. Joscelyne Landry-Altmann said even though the celebration is based around a building, the people who made the community are the ones who will be in the spotlight at the gathering.

“You can't (build a community) without having families involved,” she said. “Families moved here to work there (at the silos).”

The anniversary party begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Notre Dame and Kathleen Street.

Throughout the day, historic photos of the silos, and all other things related to silos, will be displayed. A concert, as well a a projection on the side of the silos, will take place in the evening.
