Craig Jefferson has set out to make the Coulson Night Club a better place.

The booking agent and promoter behind PUB Promotions has some big plans for the venue in the new year.

“What I've done, in conjunction with the owners, is change it up,” Jefferson said.

“(The Coulson has seen) a lot of the same bands for the last 10 years,” he added. “People get kind of tired of it.”

His master plan involves bringing in new acts, focusing on local talent and having bigger names come through.

Jefferson said he would ideally like to see about 30 per cent of performers at the bar have roots in Greater Sudbury. Right now, he said, it's more like 10 per cent.

And it's not because there aren't enough talented local bands — it's just because the same acts return multiple times a year. Offering variety will not only allow new talent to come in, it will also keep the lineup more fresh.

Since he began booking shows at the Coulson, performers like Wide Mouth Mason, Lukas Rossi and Helix have taken the stage at the downtown bar. In the coming months, Jefferson said audiences can expect more “names people know.”

“There's going to be a lot of new stuff there,” he said.

The traditional genre of music played at the bar will likely remain the same, with performance by mostly top 40 rock bands and dance bands.

Some upcoming shows of interest include:
Jan. 6 and 7 – Terra Cain
Jan. 13 and 14 – The Number of the Priest

Jan. 20 and 21 - Facelift: A Tribute to Alice in Chains
Jan. 27 and 28 – Toe Jam Tequila
