What could possibly go wrong when two regular everyday guys decide to let their wives go shopping in New York while they go off to “golf their brains out” at an exclusive New England resort? Well, thanks to the writings of Michael Parker (Season 26 – Sex Please, We’re Sixty), audiences who attend Theatre Cambrian’s dinner theatre productions are going to find out.

David McGachan (Kalvin Blanchard) and John Baker (Andrew Kurnew) are two of the vice-presidents of The Ashley Maureen Cosmetics Company. The company has been absorbed into a larger corporation and the boys have decided to get away for the weekend at the Oakfield Golf and Country Club.

The hilarity begins when the wiring of the phones at Oakfield becomes crossed.

The situation deteriorates even further when David meets the new president, DL Hutchison (Dillon Daveikis) and learns that anyone who goes to a golf club of the calibre of Oakfield without their wives would never be employed by the new company executive.

On the brink of losing their jobs, David and John need new — temporary — wives. To the rescue comes Tina (Kelsie Carroll), the cute young receptionist who is inadvertently conscripted by John to play his wife, Laura. However, David can’t find a wife so he reminds John of the time he played a woman on stage. Do you see a plot coming?

The one-liners are hilarious as well as the plays on words expressed by Wilson.
What else could possibly go wrong? Well, how about this? The real wives, Karly McGachan (Pam Sauerbrei) and Laura Baker (Jocelyn Belanger), decide to cut their shopping trip short and surprise their husbands.

Dale Pepin, the show’s director, thinks it’s one of the funniest scripts he’s ever read.

This play hits the stage April 13-14 and 19-21 at the Jubilee Centre, 195 Applegrove St. The dinner will be catered by Diana’s Catering. Tickets are $48 and are available by phoning 705-524-7317. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m.
