The Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury is inviting families to enjoy some quality time on Mother's Day, while visiting one of the last remaining old growth red pine forests in the world.

The Coalition, which is a member of the Wolf Lake Coalition, has organized a Mother's Day walk at Wolf Lake, giving residents the opportunity to see this unique ecosystem for themselves, and experience what Sudbury’s landscape of yesteryear.

Naturalists Viki Mather, Franco Mariotti, and Dr. Peter Beckett will lead the hike and share their knowledge of this self-sustaining old growth red pine forest, where trees over 300 years old have been documented.

Support for the event comes from the Wahnapitae First Nation and Wild Women Expeditions.

The Wolf Lake Coalition is pressuring the province to allow the area to be brought into the adjacent Chiniguchi Waterway Provincial Park to ensure its remains pristine.

For this to happen, mining leases and claims must be allowed to lapse.
