For the second time in the last six years, Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario has earned a nod for the Premiere's Award for Excellence in the Arts.

The award recognizes outstanding achievements of artists and arts organizations, as well as their contributions to arts and culture in Ontario over a “significant” period of time.

“We are very pleased with this new nomination,” Geneviève Pineault, TNO’s artistic and executive director, stated. “Winning the award would be a good way to wrap up our 40th season, but there are so many worthy arts organizations in Ontario that the nomination in itself is already an acknowledgement of TNO’s contribution to its community and to the province’s arts milieu.”

TNO received its first nomination in 2006. According to a media release from TNO, the Arts Organization Award is given to an arts organization involved in the production and/or distribution of artistic work by professional artists.

The laureate will receive a cash award of $50,000.

Five short-listed finalists will each receive $2,000 and a framed certificate.

The winners will be announced June 7 in Toronto.
