The competition is now closed for the 2013 Picture Our Lakes photography contest, and hundreds of pictures have been submitted, according to Artists on Elgin.

“We’ve had so many great entries this year,” Jordyn Fitzgerald, special events co-ordinator for Artists on Elgin, said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing which photos the public chooses over the next few weeks. There are going to be many close calls.”

Photo submissions will be on display at Artists on Elgin from June 18 to June 29. The public is invited to visit Artists on Elgin to vote for their favourite pictures in the categories of Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Youth.

The winning photos will be featured in the 2013 Picture Our Lakes calendar.

Picture Our Lakes is an annual contest that was conceived in an effort to celebrate the richness of Sudbury’s natural surroundings. The photos boast the natural beauty of Sudbury and showcase stunning images of urban life surrounded by aquatic gems.

This vibrant collection combines art and the environment, and strives to build community awareness regarding the importance of good environmental management and preservation of fresh water quality.

The public is invited to visit Artists on Elgin at 168 Elgin St. to vote for their favourite photos until June 29, 2012.

Artists on Elgin is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Artists on Elgin aims to build mutually beneficial partnerships between the artists and the community by addressing the business and marketing needs of the local art industry.
