The 1972 classic film Lady Sings the Blues is making a special screening at the Collège Boréal amphitheatre.
Presented by Jazz Sudbury, the screening will include a meet and greet with the film's director, Sidney Furie.
“To have this award-winning director participate is a tremendous milestone and drives our festival kickoff evening to the next level,” Christine Sola, business and marketing strategist for Jazz Sudbury, said.
The 1972 classic film, starring Diana Ross, is based on the life of Jazz legend Billie Holiday and was nominated for five Oscars. Furie is best known for directing The Entity, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, and the Iron Eagle films and was the recipient of the 2010 Director’s Guild of Canada Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tickets to the screening, which kicks off the 2012 edition of Jazz Sudbury, can be purchased for $30. They are available from www.jazzsudbury.ca. The screening begins at 8 p.m., and will be followed with a jazz reception with hors d'hoeuvres and a cash bar.
