Around the time Cindy Doire began her studies at Laurentian, she began strumming her guitar in bars around the city.
Three solo albums later, the award-winning singer and songwriter has joined forces with a longtime collaborator to create Scarlett Jane. With Stranger, their debut album out, the two are planning dates across Canada and into Europe.
The partnership is one based on a love of music — the two met several years ago at a tiny Toronto music venue when their solo careers were starting to move forward, and “they shared a passion for prose, poetry, theatrics and songs in minor keys. They liked blues and country, old school soul and rock’n’roll.”
Since then, the two have formed a friendship that allows them to push each other musically, too.
“Andrea has always been present in my musical endeavours,” Doire said. “Our voices sound so good together. People don't even recognize who is who in the album.”
The two share a passion for playing on the road, and don't mind putting in the hours.
“We're both very hardworking,” Doire said.
It's that attitude that's gotten them where they are, and that attitude that will take them further.
The duo played Fromagerie Elgin Sept. 9 as part of their Northern Adventures.
