For the 23rd year, Sudbury is celebrating the anniversary of the day Canadian women were deemed “persons” by the court.

The Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) is celebrating the occasion with a screening of Quest for Honor Oct. 11. The film by Mary Ann Smothers Bruni begins at Rainbow Cinemas at 7 p.m.

The picture follows activist and former teacher Runak Furnaj as she works with Kurdish activists, journalists and lawmen to help solve the murder of a widowed young mother, protect the victim of a safe-house shooting, redefine honour and stop the slew of 'honour killings' which endanger tens of thousands of women in Iraq, Turkey and Jordan, according to a media release from LEAF.

Quest for Honour screened at the Sundance Film Festival and has been shown in Iraq as well.

The community is invited to the local screening. Tickets can be purchased for $30 from Rainbow Cinemas, Apollo Restaurant, Paris Natural Foods, Black Cat and the Laurentian Bookstore. Tickets include popcorn, a soft drink and candy. The film will proceed a question and answer session, as well as a reception.
