It's also the title of a collection of haiku poems written by local authors Irene Golas and Ignatius Fay. The book includes more than 100 poems about life in mining towns — towns nestled in breccia.
“The Sudbury Breccia section was Irene's idea,” Fay said. “After reading a few poems I had written about my childhood in Levack, she suggested that a series on life in a mining town would make an interesting addition to the book. I expanded my focus to include details of the miners' lives and the section grew from there.”
The collection of haiku's is put together in a sequence where each poem suggests some relationship to the ones around it.
“It took us several months to sequence the poems,” Golas said. “We didn't want a collection divided into two sections — his poetry and my poetry. We wanted Breccia to be a dynamic read.”
The local publication is now available from major bookstores like Barnes & Nobel and Amazon, as well as from lulu.com.
