Youth creates creatures to benefit the needy

By: Sudbury Northern Life Staff

Katryna Martin has been hard at work making her own stuffed animals.

The seven-year-old from Levack fills socks with rice before bringing the characters to life with googley eyes, animated faces and charismatic designs.

The youngster began making them as gifts for family and friends, but when others wanted to buy her creations, she hopped on the opportunity to support the annual Lions Children's Christmas Telethon. Partial proceeds from every toy Martin sells will go to supporting the telethon.

“She decided she wanted to help other kids,” her mom Chantale Martin-Goulet said.
So far, Martin has made about 25 critters and has plans for many more. Her favourite designs include elephants, dragons, cows, bears and penguins.

Anyone interested in learning more about her creations can find her on Facebook.
