The search for a new executive director at Northern Lights Festival Boréal has come to an end. Max Merrifield, who spent the last year-and-a-half as outreach and logistics co-ordinator at the festival, accepted the position Nov. 20.
“Max is a wonderful asset to the festival organization, bringing a youthful enthusiasm, a strong vision for the organization's future and a great respect for the festival’s 42 year history,” said board chair Gerry Guimond.
Along with the work he's done for NLFB, Merrifield is a long-time festival volunteer. He has more than 10 years experience as an NLFB volunteer, cooking breakfasts for performers, acting as stage host, picking up litter on the Green Team and more.
The role of executive director is funded through a partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the government of Ontario.
Other roles were also filled Nov. 20. A new board of directors was selected, including Guimond as board chair, Jim Webb as chair of communications, Linda Guitard as treasurer and Patrick Smith as secretary. Paul Loewenberg will also continue his role of artistic director.
Ross Kelly, who has served as chair for the past four years, retired from the board. As Kelly leaves the board, the organization remains the strongest it has been in years, financially and organizationally.
While NLFB is most known for its annual summer festival on the shores of Ramsey Lake, the organization also hosts shows, contests and other events throughout the year.
Early-bird tickets for next year's festival, which runs July 5 to 7, go on sale Dec. 1, for $50.
