Vacation temptation

When Danny Cole booked a trip to Temptations Resort in Cancun, Mexico, he was going to have a good time.

The Sudburian was planning to spend his 31st birthday at the swingers resort alongside a good friend, taking in the warm weather, going on a few excursions and enjoying the night life.

“Never in his wildest dreams” did he think the adventure would lead to more.

A few days after arriving, a girl caught Cole’s eye. Marie-Josée Daigle had travelled from her home just outside Montreal with a group of friends to escape the December cold.

The two began chatting after a few days, and before long, were inseparable. Her group of travel companions welcomed Cole and his friend.

“We all got along great and had a blast drinking, hanging out in the pool, dancing and going out to eat together,” Cole said. “It was nice. They really accepted us into their group.”

While the Montreal travellers spoke mainly French, Cole and Daigle were able to communicate in a mix of languages. Cole said Daigle’s English was better than most in her group, while his attempts at French were usually laugh-worthy.

With a bit of patience and a lot of persistence, they managed to learn a lot about each other.

As the days wore on, the two continued to get to know each other.

“We had a blast together and after a couple of days we slowly got closer,” Cole said.

“The first night we kissed, I walked her to her room and as I kissed her goodnight, we could hear the sound of somebody’s wet flip-flops walking towards us in the hallway.

We both started laughing uncontrollably at the fact that this loud swooshing noise was interrupting what would have been an otherwise very romantic moment.”

After their giggles were under control, the two made plans to go on a dinner date the next day, which happened to be 12/12/12.

“I’m a romantic when it comes to things like that so I thought it was a nice touch,” Cole said.

The two spent the rest of their vacation together, but “sadly, all good things must come to an end.”

“After spending every minute together for the remaining three days of our trip it was time to go back to reality,” Cole said. “Marie saw me off at 8 a.m.

It was heartbreaking to leave her there as I wanted so badly to see her again, but did she feel the same? Was this just a fling? I had hoped not, but we kept in touch via texting and Skype over the Christmas holidays.”

It seemed Daigle felt the same. “She made a decision that still makes me shake my head in disbelief,” Cole said. “She booked a 10-hour bus trip from Montreal to Sudbury to be with me for New Year’s Eve.

I was ecstatic. I think we were both secretly thinking the same thing. Was it love?”

After ringing in the New Year side by side, the two knew they couldn’t be apart.

In what Cole admits is “probably the craziest thing either of us have ever done,” Daigle decided to pack here things and move west. In March, she will become a Sudburian.

“It was love — it always was,” Cole said. “We found love in a hopeless place — at a swingers resort.”
