How about a little trumpet on a Saturday evening?

The third concert in the Jazzworkz Concert Series showcases Brian O’Kane and the Borealis Quartet in “A Tribute to Bluenote” on March 2.

The Toronto-based jazz trumpeter will be accompanied by Allan Walsh on tenor sax, Tony Simpkin on piano, Brian Quebec on bass and Jack Broumpton on drums.

The Jazzworkz Concert Series, launched in Sudbury last year, supports the Joan Mantle Music Trust, which in turn provides musical instruments to students in Rainbow schools.

Brian O’Kane is one of the most in-demand trumpet players in Toronto. He’s shared the stage with Juno Award-winning jazz bands, as well as the likes of Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin and Diana Krall.

He is also a faculty member at Humber College, one of Canada’s premier jazz/contemporary music schools.

Having grown up in North Bay, O’Kane is also a northerner.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and takes place at St. Peter’s Church, 203 York Street in Sudbury. Admission is $10 for students and $20 for adults.

Tickets are available at Black Cat on Durham Street and Hair to Live For in the Cedar Pointe Mall.
