As the curtain rises on Sudbury Theatre Centre’s 2013-14 season, the professional theatre company invites the community to “come play with us.”

Its 42nd season is designed to be “more engaging than ever,” with a strong lineup of productions.

Highlights of the mainstage shows include:

“Our Town”
by Thornton Wilder
Sept. 26 – Oct. 12
Called “the greatest American play ever written,” “Our Town” is life in small town USA. Audiences are invited into the lives of the Webb and Gibbs families, as children fall in love, get married and eventually — in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre — die.

“Mucking in the Drift”
by Matthew Heiti
Oct. 31 to Nov. 10
A true Sudbury story, Mucking in the Drift will make its world premiere at STC. Written by Sudbury’s own Matthew Heiti, the play was inspired by the legends of Sudbury’s Nickel Belt Baseball League. It’s a dark Vaudevillian comedy about a man searching for relevance in the chaos of a changing city.

“The Snow Queen”
Nov. 29 – Dec. 15
Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and adapted by David Savoy, “The Snow Queen” is a fairy tale for all ages. When young Kai is snatched from his home by the beautiful, but cruel, Snow Queen, his friend Gerda sets out to rescue him.
“Real Estate”

by Allana Harkin
Feb. 20 to March 9
A Canadian comedy, “Real Estate” is the story of Joel, a mystery novelist experiencing writer’s block. He retreats to the family home his father built, but finds out the old house needs to be sold fast.

“High Life”
by Lee Macdougall
March 27 – April 6
Four morphine addicts try to rob a bank machine in this dark, comic tale. The team tries to use an out-of-order ATM as bait, but of course, all goes wrong.

“Avenue Q”
Sept. 26 – Oct. 12
This Broadway musical is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who arrives in New York City with big dreams and a small bank account. Moving into Avenue Q, he and his wacky assortment of neighbours struggle with the realities of real life.

On top of regular season programming, STC will also be featuring its run of youth, adult and film acting classes.
