Angry Moose. Saturday Night. Valley Girl. Les Portes de L'Enfer (or The Gates of Hell). Black Rock.

Every good Sudburian can tell you a story or two about each of the these.

As of this weekend, Sudburians will also be able to taste them at a handful of local bars. On June 14, the five blends from Stack Brewing will officially be on tap at Fromagerie Elgin, the Towneouse, Laughing Buddha and at both the downtown and Val Caron Hardrock 42.

“Everyone wants to try this,” said Shawn Mailloux, owner of Stack.

Those who have been fortunate enough to sample them have had nothing but rave reviews.

“Wow,” taste-testers would tell Mailloux. “I wasn't expecting this.”

Bar owners have been just as receptive.

“This is something we can really sell,” they've told him.

Mailloux said the support has encouraged him to expand and grow.

The Stack lineup features five different brews. Angry Moose is a strong beer. At nine per cent, it has a strong hop flavour. Saturday Night is the easy-drinking selection. A cream ale, Mailloux said it's his go-to for a summer day. Valley Girl, ringing in at 5.5 per cent, is a charismatic wheat beer.

“It's not just a bland wheat,” Mailloux said.

Les Portes de L'Enfer is Stack's tribute to Francophone Sudbury, created using a French brewing style.

Last, but not least, is the one beer Mailloux said he often finds himself sitting down with. Black Rock is a dark Cascadian beer, and it is the child of an IPA and stout beer coming together. Boasting a roasted smell, Black Rock also has coffee notes.

There are also talks of adding a sixth beer as a seasonal rotation to the roster.

While the lineup will soon be available in the bar, it will still be a while before Mailloux will be selling the blends from the factory at 1350 Kelly Lake Rd.

He said eager customers are able to pre-order 64- and 32-ounce growlers, though, and pick up Stack merchandise, from the beer-making facility.
