The Vale Concert series wraps up next Wednesday with a performance by a man artists and fans alike recognize as one of Canada's best songwriters and performers.

In fact, none other than Jimmy Buffet has called Lennie Gallant his favourite Canadian songwriter. Gallant hits the stage at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

It’s no exaggeration to claim that Gallant’s music is out of this world. Of the nine albums he has released (seven in English, two in French), the album “When We Get There” reached the highest — it accompanied the Space Shuttle Endeavour by request of the crew on their 2009 voyage.

Gallant is the recipient of many awards and nominations over the years. He's won Junos and East Coast Music Awards and earned Francophone Album Of The Year honours in 2003 and 2010. Gallant will perform in English and French at the Vale Concert.

At his last Sudbury concert, Gallant’s sold out show at St. Andrew’s Place was the celebratory 10th anniversary show of the Dairy Queen Out Of The Cold concert series. Many in the crowd felt that Gallant’s show was the best of the 30 concerts in that long running concert series.

The Vale Concert Series was a new community initiative launched by Vale in May of 2012 in support of the Sudbury Food Bank. Held at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre one Wednesday night per month from May to September, the 2012 series raised $17,500 cash for the 14,000 folks who access the Sudbury Food Bank services each month.

The 2013 Vale Series has enjoyed similar success with the first four concerts in the series generating $14,241 for the charity.

Although the first concert had low attendance due to extreme weather, the June and July concerts saw attendance of 800 per show. The August concert which featured Dala, with pop star Adam Crossley as a special guest, attracted a crowd of 1,100.

The performers at that concert were impressed by the quality of sound at the venue and the courtesy of the crowd who listened attentively to their tunes.

While funded fully by Vale out of a desire to bring music to all in our city, the summer series also benefits from additional assistance provided by the City Of Greater Sudbury under the banner of the “Building A Healthy Community Initiative”. The series receives additional support by the Sudbury Travelodge Hotel which provides accommodations for the performers in the series.

Vale and the Sudbury Food Bank would love to see you on Sept. 11. As always, while admission is free, monetary donations to the Sudbury Food Bank are welcome.
