With eight Tony Awards under its belt since its 1987 Broadway debut, the show has been re-staged to narrow the more than three-hour epic to a more bite-sized morsel perfect for Theatre Cambrian.
Dennis Cropper stars as Jean Valjean, a man sentenced to 19 years in jail for stealing bread.
When released, Javert (Dale Pepin), the self-righteous policeman who first arrested him, vows to dog him till the end of his days. Valjean rescues the dying Fantine (Marlene Modesto) and then adopts her daughter, Cosette (Vanessa DiFeo). The stories come together when Marius (Jeremy Vojtesek), a revolutionary in the 1832 student revolt, sees Cosette and falls in love with her.
Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Les Misérables is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit.
