Local hairstylist Frank Marasco was recently honoured for his work by Intercoiffure America and Canada.

The owner of A Touch of Class in Sudbury was taking photos of the winners at the reception at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, when he was called to the front of the room, and presented with the Cheeno O'Searo Award.

“I was very surprised,” Marasco said. “It was big hall in there. It was like the Academy Awards.”

The award is presented to a hard-working Intercoiffure member who helps people within the industry.

Marasco, who has been a hairdresser since 1967, said he mentors young Intercoiffure members, something which he greatly enjoys.

If he could offer one piece of advice to aspiring hairdressers, he said they should advance their education. Marasco himself trained at the Vidal Sassoon school in England.

“Without that, you never grow,” he said. “You never become one of the best hairdressers, because you don't have skill, you don't have education.”
