French playwright Eugene Ionesco's La cantatrice chauve (The Bald Soprano) has been playing non-stop at Paris' Théâtre de la Huchette since 1957.

Now it's Sudbury's turn to sample this absurdist masterpiece thanks to Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario's 34th amateur production. An annual tradition, this initiative allows local amateur actors a chance to take on the TNO stage.

The play is directed by TNO artistic director Genevieve Pineault, and will feature Lynne Dupuis, Raymond Landry, Marie-Paule Paquette, Daniel Robillard, Raphael Robitaille and Alice Seguin.

Performances take place Jan. 22-Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. One matinee performance has also been scheduled for Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.
