The musical is based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book "Shrek!" and the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animations feature film.
It was first brought to the Broadway stage in 2008 before touring to nearly 150 cities in the USA and Canada. Productions have since played in Spain, Poland, France, Malaysia, China, Brazil, Italy, Denmark, The Netherlands, Estonia, Israel and Turkey. In a faraway kingdom, turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a feisty princess.
Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand, and his name is Shrek.
Full of all-new songs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, "Shrek: The Musical" is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone.
The musical runs May 15-31. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for students and seniors and $20 for children (13 and under). Phone 705-524-7317 or visit www.theatrecambrian.ca for more information.
