Band presents 'Mama I'm Coming Home' concert
The May 10 “Mama I'm Coming Home” concert, which takes place at the school starting at 7 p.m., features “high-powered rock and roll,” said Brenda Stobo, who volunteers with the band.
The set runs 90 minutes, and includes songs from Airbourne, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots, Monster Truck, Danko Jones and Shinedown.
Evolutionary is a 27-piece rock band made up of four vocalists, a 10-piece rhythm section, a 13-piece horn section and is supported by a 13-member stage crew.
The members tour from March until June, performing in front of more than 8,000 students per year.
The concert doesn't involve the typical scenario of students sitting on chairs and playing their instruments, instead incorporating choreography and a light and sound show, Stobo said.
This is the 34th consecutive year Evolutionary has held a Mother's Day concert. While the band has been touring since March, this is its first performance at Confederation this year, hence the “Mama I'm Coming Home” theme, Stobo said.
“Evolutionary's level of musicianship and technical expertise continues to be at an all-time high,” said music director Norm McIntosh, in a press release.
“We look forward to another outstanding performance by the band and crew as we present our annual tribute to mothers in our community.”
The concert also features a performance by Valley View Public School's band, called Changes.
Tickets to the concert, which cost $15 each, are available from band and crew members, Confederation Secondary School's main office, Jett Landry Music and Hanmer Home Hardware.
Proceeds from the concert help defray the costs of Evolutionary's four-day tour at the end of May. For more information, phone the school at 705-671-5948.
