Sur/Real has entertainment for young, old, Francophone and Anglophone.
Geneviève Pineault, artistic director, said she saw between 40 and 50 shows throughout the past year to select the best for TNO’s upcoming season.
“The role of theatre is to highlight, expose, question, celebrate and inspire. It is a representation of the world as it is, as it should be. It is a reflection of reality, of the life and world that surround us,” said Pineault.
Their adult series offers a diverse array of stories.
“Une Piece Et Neuf Chansons” (Midsummer) is about an unlikely love affair; then there's a moving one-woman show in “Je N’Y Suis Plus.” “Une Vie Pour Deux” is the true story of ghostly obsession, and “Moi Dans Les Ruines Rouges Du Siècle” (Me in the Century’s Red Ruins) gives a glimpse into the history of Soviet Ukraine.
Pineault is also excited for families to enjoy “Le Porteur” (The Star Keeper), a production she has been trying to schedule for the past three years.
“It is an award-winning production that has been touring all over the world for 14 years,” said Pineault. “It is great puppetry, with no words, making it suitable for both English and French audiences.”
Oliver Jones will be playing a benefit concert to an intimate crowd of 100 — just Oliver and his piano. It is a must-attend special event.
To welcome back Anglophone patrons, TNO will once again have its popular supertitles — an English translation projected above the stage simultaneous to what is happening on stage. This is their third consecutive season and both the matinee and evening shows for the adult series will feature supertitles.
New this year is a “Regressive Rate” for those between 18 and 35 years of age. It is geared for those who prefer a no-strings-attached relationship. Rather than saving on a subscription, their loyalty will still be rewarded every time they return.
The first ticket costs $30, but every time they attend another play, within the adult series that same season, the TNO will take $5 off the price of the last ticket purchase.
