Nickel City Sound, Sudbury’s women’s barbershop chorus, represented the city in competition against six other choruses from across Ontario at Harmony, Inc.'s annual area competition in London on the weekend.

After months of hard work and preparation, Nickel City Sound secured gold medals as they placed first in the competition and qualified for the International Competition being held in Louisville, Kentucky in November. This is the fifth consecutive year the group has won this competition.

Also for the fifth year in a row, the chorus received of the Louise Malison Memorial Award, given to the group that scores the highest in the presentation category, as well as the Bonnie Barber Memorial Award, given to the group that scores the highest in the singing category.

Bonnie Barber was a member of Nickel City Sound who passed away in January 2009.

Nickel City Sound is a women's a cappella chorus, which has been bringing music to Sudbury since 1995. They are known for their love of singing, heart-felt performances and mastery of technically demanding harmonies in the four-part a cappella barbershop style, according to a news release.
