Faithful continue ancient tradition at Plunge in the Park

An ancient tradition was enacted in Bell Park June 22 as All Nations Church held its third annual Plunge in the Park.

Thirty-two people were baptized through complete immersion in the water at the event, which was attended by about 400 people.

Those baptized at the event included an 11-year-old and a couple who had been married 53 years.

When they saw what was going on, two sisters who were walking their dogs on the boardwalk also went home and changed into appropriate clothing, and were also baptized. One man also came all the way from Sault Ste. Marie to be baptized.

“Baptism has always been a public declaration of faith in Christ,” said All Nations Pastor Jeremy Mahood, in an email.

“The first century church baptized wherever there was sufficient water. When an adult chooses to make faith an everyday part of their lives, they are also choosing to live that faith in front of others. Plunge in the Park is their first public witness.”
