About 1,000 purebred dogs of all breeds will be shown during the competition, said Noreen Lorenz, one of the show's organizers.

Dog owners and handlers travel across North America to rack up show points to be put toward their dog's ranking at a national level, she said, adding that the country's No. 1 poodle is expected at the Sudbury show.

Lorenz, who owns award-winning English Setters, said the dog show is a great event for those considering purchasing a purebred dog.

“It gives families a chance to see what types of dogs are out there, because there's a lot of different types of dogs,” Lorenz said.

If you're looking for a present for your pooch, the dog show is also the place to be, as there will be several vendors on hand selling canine supplies.

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $3 for adults and $5 for families. For more information, visit www.sdkc.ca.
