Is your approach to home renovation more akin to McGyver or Red Green than to Mike Holmes? If so, there may be a spot for you on the HGTV Canada television program “I Wrecked My House.”

Sudburians are being invited to apply to appear on the 14-episode program, which is hosted by comedian Steve Patterson, best known for his work on the CBC Radio program “The Debaters.”

“We're looking for people who have unconventional, kooky approaches to home repairs,” said Margaret Robitaille with Mountain Road Productions, which is producing the show for HGTV Canada.

In exchange for appearing on the show, they'll receive renovations worth thousands of dollars to fix what they've done to their homes.

Robitaille said she expects to start filming in November and the show to appear on HGTV Canada next spring.

“I Wrecked My House” already appeared on the network as a one-hour special this past spring. Matt and Katie Dotey of North Bay, Ont. beat out several other homeowners to receive a $50,000 home renovation.

“In the kitchen sick, there was a huge leak in their faucet,” Robitaille said. “They were using pull-up diapers to manage the leak, which you obviously have to swap every once in a while, because it gets full.”

In another home featured on the show, the homeowners had exposed their kitchen ceiling, and had wires dangling everywhere.

“One of them happened to be a live wire, and they just put this little paper sign on it saying 'live.' It was above their kitchen sink.”

Robitaille said she's looking for gregarious and fun-loving people who don't take themselves too seriously. “It's a very lighthearted comedy of errors,” she said.

Those interested in appearing on the show are asked to send a description of their questionable home repairs, a photo of the repairs and a photo of themselves and to [email protected].
