Cook for Me Sudbury is Sudbury Living’s newest signature event, and has got the community buzzing.

This local culinary competition — hosted by Northern Life's sister publication — was designed to showcase the cooking skills of home chefs living within Greater Sudbury.

Hopefuls submitted their recipes with a photo in May, and a panel of three culinary experts weeded the competition down to the final two.

The process was filmed and turned into three webisodes airing online at cookformesudbury.com and on Eastlink TV.

The top two contestants, Mike Sipos, with his Lambchetta, and Sandra Beites, with her traditional Portuguese dish of clams, pork and potatoes called Carne Alejtejana, will now have their dishes featured at the live finale event Oct. 24 at the Caruso Club.

Event ticket holders will have the chance to help crown the winner, along with the show’s judges, Mark Gregorini, (owner of Ristorante Verdicchio), Stephanie Piché, (owner of Legacy Catering), Simon Le Hénaff, (chef and professor for College Boréal’s Culinary Arts program) and special guest judge Marida Mohammed (Masterchef Canada runner-up).

“It’s an honour to be asked by my hometown to be part of an event that explores home cooks and their passion for cooking,” said Mohammed. “I know what it's like to be in their position, and I am looking forward to being on the other side.”

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online cookformesudbury.com or by calling 705-673-5667 ext. 336. Partial proceeds from ticket sales will be going to the Elgin Street Mission.
