Sudburian Matthew Heiti has been shortlisted by the Playwrights Guild of Canada for an award for his play, “Mucking in the Drift.”

The play was produced by Sudbury Theatre Centre last year, the first time a local playwright's work has been featured as one of the theatre's main stage productions. Heiti is STC's playwright in residence.
Deeply rooted in Northern Ontario archetypes, it focuses the days when miners played on company baseball teams.

Heiti is up for the Carol Bolt Award, given annually for the best work by a Playwrights Guild of Canada member that has premiered in the past year.

Also nominated are Sean Dixon for “A God In Need of Help” and Colleen Murphy for “Pig Girl.”

The Playwrights Guild of Canada's 2014 Tom Hendry Awards will be presented in Toronto Oct. 27.
