Blind Pig: Head to evening of prohibition-era fun

If you look far enough back into the mists of Sudbury's history, you might come across the term “blind pig.” These were establishments — often set up in shacks — that illegally sold alcoholic beverages, and were habitually raided by police.

If you look far enough back into the mists of Sudbury's history, you might come across the term “blind pig.”

These were establishments — often set up in shacks — that illegally sold alcoholic beverages, and were habitually raided by police.

An event hosted by the Sudbury Community Foundation Nov. 1 plays homage to those days.

The Blind Pig Speakeasy Soiree, “a Gatsby-inspired, jazz-syncopated, frivolous evening of prohibition era fun and excitement,” takes place at Bryston's on the Park Nov. 1. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. “until the coppers shut us down.”

Tickets to the event, which cost $125 each, are available by phoning 705-673-7770 or visiting www.sudburycf.ca.
