The topic of losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s is tackled in the play “The Memory of Water,” which is being staged Oct. 30 to Nov. 8 by Thorneloe University Theatre.

Mary, Teresa, and Catherine are reunited when their mother dies of Alzheimer’s disease, each affected differently by this loss.

“The Memory of Water” focuses on the complexity of their grief, not to mention the overwhelming absurdity that occurs whenever there is a death in the family.

As the three sisters reminisce and bicker about different events in their childhood, hidden truths and secrets begin to surface, adding dimension to this already tense and emotional time.

This play takes a comic approach to very serious topics, namely, the intricacies of losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s disease; more than anything, though, it is a story about mothers and daughters that men are also sure to enjoy.

Check out the production at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30-31, Nov. 1, and Nov. 6-8. There's also 2 p.m. matinees Nov. 1 and Nov. 8.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and are available at the door or in advance at the Laurentian University bookstore, at Thorneloe University, by phone at 705-673-1730, ext. 100, or online at www.eventbrite.ca (search for The Memory of Water).
